Ford engineers couldn't be more excited to have so much riding on the 2017 Super Duty's improved high-strength steel frame. We have to admit, even our team at Ed Shults Ford-Lincoln didn't know what to expect when John Brenkus proposed letting the Tough Science team dangle over 60,000 lbs. of dead weight in mid-air from the frame of the newly redesigned military-grade aluminum alloy body of the 2017 Ford Super Duty. Then again, we felt America's leading heavy-duty pickup had a point to make.

Specifically, the team behind the 2017 Super Duty needed to make crystal-clear what it means to endure more than 7,000 lbs. of payload and up to 32,500 lbs. of towing capacity. The world needed to understand what it meant to reinvest the pounds our truck's lighter, surprisingly durable body shaved into a tougher, more capable pickup than Ford has ever rolled out. If that meant dangling eight pickups weighing in at 4,700 lbs. each and a Tonka F-750 dump truck adding over 13,000 lbs. Itself, then so be it.
