The Ford Explorer recently celebrated its 25th anniversary, a major milestone for one of the pioneers of the large SUV category that ended up taking America by storm. Fortunately, this big dog still hunts. The 2016 edition features more smart technology, a new EcoBoost® engine and a new Platinum series, summarizes Everyman Driver in a new review.
The arrival of more powerful EcoBoost engine technology brings even more capability to the Explorer. The available 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine creates 280 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. Compared to the previous 2.0-liter version, that's an additional 40 horses and 40 pound-feet of torque. The front-wheel-drive Explorer retains its EPA fuel economy rating of 28 mpg highway, which is best-in-class.
With the summer driving season ahead and fuel prices likely to climb accordingly, now is a good time to consider an eco-friendly engine if you need a full-size SUV.
